What does it take to build AI that not only speaks Vietnamese but also understands the cultural nuances and local context?<\/strong> This was the core question our CTO, Chuong Nguyen<\/a><\/strong>, explored during an exciting workshop at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU)<\/strong> in Ho Chi Minh City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held under the title “Building Localized and Application-Specific Large Language Models,”<\/strong> the session brought together over 50 lecturers and students for a high-energy exchange on the future of AI in Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Challenge: Data Scarcity in Vietnamese NLP<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Building a truly localized AI model for Vietnamese<\/strong> involves overcoming a major hurdle: the lack of high-quality, large-scale Vietnamese datasets<\/strong>. Unlike English or Chinese, Vietnamese resources for NLP (Natural Language Processing) are limited, making model training significantly more difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Opportunity: Post-Training for Local Impact<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Chuong shared insights from our work at AI Hay<\/a><\/strong>, a platform designed to serve 100 million Vietnamese users<\/strong>. One key approach is fine-tuning large language models<\/strong> post-training using localized prompts, domain-specific data, and cultural feedback loops<\/strong>. These methods unlock new use cases for generative AI in Vietnam\u2014from education and healthcare to business automation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
